Biggest Losers
The two biggest Oscar films, Out of Africa & The Color Purple, both garnering 11 nominations a piece at the Oscars, did not receive a single nomination between them here at The Kevys. Mostly because they are awful films.

Also this: The Purple Rose of Cairo, with six nominations, is the only BP nominee to go home empty handed.

Fun Stuff
With his 5 nominations for Lost in America (Director, Actor, Screenplay, Comedic Performance, & one half of Couple/Duo), Albert Brooks sets a record for most nominations in one year, breaking the record of 4 set by both Prince & Bill Murray the year before. Prince still holds the record for most wins in a single year with four.

Biggest Loser
With just 4 nominations, The Color of Money is the least nominated film among the ten BP nominees. In fact, along with The Killing Fields in 1984, it is the lowest number of nominations by any BP nominees in the first three years of The Kevy Awards. It is also the only BP nominee to not win a single award this year.

Fun Stuff
Little Shop of Horrors 25 nominations came one shy of matching the record set by Brazil the previous year. This is also the first time that the most nominated film did not take home Best Picture, instead it was won by Blue Velvet, which at 22 nominations, is the second most nominated film of the year.

Blue Velvet does set a record with the most wins, topping Brazil's 8 wins from last year, with 11 wins of it's own.

Woody Allen receives his third consecutive Original Screenplay nomination, winning his second (but not in a row). This is also Woody's first nomination for Director. Combine these with his two Comedic Performance nominations, and he has a lifetime total (so far) of 6 nominations and 2 wins, making him the second most nominated individual through the first three years of The Kevy Awards.

The most nominated individual is Steve Martin, with 7 lifetime (so far) nominations, five from this year and two from 1984. Martin has one win. Also, his 5 nominations this year tie him with Albert Brooks from last year, for the most nominations in one year.

Jim Jarmusch becomes the first two time Director nominee. He also receives his second Screenplay nomination. He has a grand total of 4 nominations lifetime (so far).

With 4 nominations & 4 wins, Dennis Hopper matches what Prince did in 1984.

With their added nominations this year, Bill Murray, Kathleen Turner, & Lea Thompson all reach 5 nominations lifetime (so far). Sigourney Weaver, along with the aforementioned Jarmusch and Hopper, are each at 4 lifetime (so far) nominations.

This is the first year that Best Animated Motion Picture is handed out.

Biggest Loser
Hope & Glory, garnered just 5 nominations and was the only BP nominee to not win any awards. Also, for the second year in a row, the Best Actor and Actress Oscar Winners were not even nominated for a Kevy Award.

Fun Stuff
The Princess Bride becomes the most nominated film in Kevy Award history. It's 32 nominations shattered the record of 26 set by Brazil two years ago. It's 11 wins also tie the record set by Blue Velvet last year.

For the second year in a row, the film with the most nominations did not take home Best Motion Picture. In fact, this year's BP winner, Full Metal Jacket, was actually third in nominations, after The Princess Bride and The Lost Boys. To add to this, it is the first film to win BP without winning the most awards, as it won seven to The Princess Bride's eleven.

Full Metal Jacket becomes the first Best Picture winner to not have any acting nominations.

With 19 nominations, The Lost Boys sets a record for most nominations without a BP nomination.

Woody Allen received his fourth consecutive Original Screenplay nomination. It is also his third win in that category. Woody has received an Original Screenplay nomination every year that The Kevy Awards have existed! Combine these with his two Director nods and two Comedic Performance nods, and he has a lifetime total of 8 nominations (and 3 wins). This is the second most nominations ever.

The most nominated individual through the first four years of The Kevy Awards, is Steve Martin. His two nominations this year bring his lifetime total to nine. He has won twice.

Woody Allen and The Coen Brothers join Jim Jarmusch for the most Director nominations, with two a piece.

Jack Nicholson, William Hurt, & Gary Oldman each received their second Best Actor nomination this year (Oldman's is his second in a row), becoming the first individuals to receive a second nomination in either lead acting category.

Morgan Freeman becomes the first African American nominated for an acting award. The only non-white acting nominees prior to this were Norma Aleandro (Argentine), Carmen Maura (Spanish), Sonia Braga (Brazilian) and Dr. Haing S. Ngor (Cambodian).

David Mamet was nominated for both Original and Adapted Screenplay this year (for House of Games & The Untouchables, respectively). He did not win either of these but he did win Directorial Debut for House of Games.

After Martin and Allen, the most nominated individuals of all-time are The Coen Brothers with 6 nominations. Then come Bill Murray, William Hurt, Lea Thompson, Albert Brooks, & Kathleen Turner, each with 5 nominations. Prince and Dennis Hopper still hold the record for most wins, with four each.

Biggest Loser
With four nominations, Pelle the Conqueror garnered the least nominations of the ten Best Picture nominees, and was the only BP nominee to not win any Kevy Awards.

Fun Stuff
After back to back years of the most nominated films and and the Best Picture winner not matching up, BP winner Who Framed Roger Rabbit is also the most nominated film. It's 11 Kevy Awards matched Blue Velvet in 1986, and came one shy of the record set by The Princess Bride last year.

Martin Scorsese and Wim Wenders join Jarmusch, Allen, & The Coen Bros. with two Director nominations each.

Steve Martin adds another nomination to his lifetime total, and now has 10 nominations total, breaking his own record, and staying the most nominated individual performer in the history of the awards.

This is the first year that Woody Allen has not been nominated for Screenplay. Maybe next year buddy. But hey, he still holds the second place spot for most lifetime nominations with eight.

Third place in lifetime nominations are still The Coen Brothers, with six nominations.

Willem Dafoe's 5 nominations puts him in fourth place in lifetime nominations, tying him with Bill Murray, William Hurt, Lea Thompson, Albert Brooks, & Kathleen Turner.

Willem Dafoe's 4 Kevy Awards and 5 nominations tie the single year record for each.

Genevieve Bujold's Best Supporting Actress Kevy makes her the first person to receive a second acting Kevy.

Biggest Loser
Enemies, A Love Story & Last Exit to Brooklyn, each with 5 nominations, were the BP nominees with the least nominations, and the only two BP nominees to go home empty-handed.

This is the first time that not a single Oscar BP nominee was nominated for BP at The Kevy Awards. In fact, out of the five Oscar nominated Best Pictures, four went completely ignored, with only a pair of nominations for My Left Foot, and not a damn thing for Dead Poet's Society, Field of Dreams, , Born on the Fourth of July, aor the Oscar winning Driving Miss Daisy.

Fun Stuff
The more the merrier!! Best Pictures raises it's nominees from ten to twelve, while most of the other awards go from five nominees to six a piece. There are still some categories with just three or four nominees each.

Best Picture winner Do the Right Thing is the third BP winner to not be the film with the most nominations. It is also the second film to win BP without winning the most awards.

Jack Nicholson & Dianne Wiest garner their third acting nominations, more than anyone else. Glenn Close, Michelle Pfeiffer, & William Hurt each have two acting nominations.

Jack Nicholson, Winona Ryder, & Christian Slater each received five nominations this year, matching the record set by Albert Brooks in 1985.

Steve Martin received his 11th lifetime nomination this year. He keeps his title as most nominated individual, but has been matched by another (see below).

Woody Allen received three nominations this year, giving him a lifetime total of 11. Woody has three Director nods and five Screenplay nods, winning four of the latter.

Jack Nicholson is third, with eight lifetime nominations, followed by Winona Ryder with seven lifetime nominations.

In a tie for fifth most nominations, with six each are Michelle Pfeiffer & Dianne Wiest.

The individuals with the most wins, each with four Kevy Awards, are Woody Allen, Willem Dafoe, Dennis Hopper, & Prince.
